<p>An electronic interlock system for a tumblerless lock utilizes radio frequency identification to enable system operation. The interlock system has an ignition module 4 containing a reader 3 which powers an antenna 1, integral with the lock, to generate an electromagnetic field which in turn energizes a transponder 2 mounted in key 7. The transponder 2 transmits a unique identification code back to the reader 3 via the antenna 1 where it is decoded, and if valid enables system operation, but if invalid prevents operation. The antenna 1 is mounted in a module, eg of non-metallic material, at the forward end of the lock assembly. In another embodiment touch memory digital interface (see fig 15), having direct electrical contacts between the key and a CPU (see 96, 98, 99 fig 15), is employed. A key retention system (see fig 3) and cylinder anti-rotation lock system are also disclosed. <IMAGE></p> |
