Stabilised super-paramagnetic aggregate particles

Super-paramagnetic particles as described in the parent patent comprise aggregates with a particle size of 10-1000 nm comprising several single-domain particles of Fe oxide, Fe-contg. mixed oxides or Fe with a particle size of 3-20 nm. The novelty is that the particles are coated with substances selected from: (1) mono- and polyhydroxy aromatic cpds. selected from benzonoids, coumarins, lignans, terphenyls, flavonoids, tannins, xanthones, benzophenones, naphthalenes, naphthoquinones, anthraquinones, anthracyclines, fused polycyclic aromatic cpds. and their phosphate, diphosphate, polyphosphate, thiophosphate, phosphonate, thiophosphonate, carboxylate, sulphate, mercapto or silanetriol derivs. and/or (2) S-contg. amino acids, oligopeptides, polypeptides and proteins, and (3) orthosilicic acid and its condensation prods. with di- and polyvalent inorganic ions and/or organic acids and bases. Also claimed are: (A) the prod. of stabilised super-paramagnetic particles by producing aggregate particles as above (see parent patent) and coating them with 20-50 wt.% of a substance selected from mono- and polyhydroxy aromatic cpds., amino-acid-contg. substances and substances of type (3); (B) single-domain particles as above that are coated as above, and (C) a pharmacologically active compsn. comprising a carrier and coated aggregate particles as above, opt. in association with a tissue-specific binding substance, a pharmacologically active substance, a pharmacologically active cell, a pharmacologically active complexing agent or a cell fusion mediator.
