The unit has screens, provision for fluidisation, and a vibratory drive. It contains a screen lining (10) and esp. one or more intermediate floors (8). The improvement is that screen (10) has a larger mesh than the inter-floor (8) beneath. Pref., fluidising medium is introduced between the screen (10) and inter-floor (8).
