A heat transfer recording sheet is disclosed, comprising a base film having provided on one side thereof a coloring material layer containing at least a subliming dye and a binder, wherein said binder is a polycarbonate resin having a repeating unit represented by the formula (I): (I) wherein R1 represents an aryl group; and R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group. In another embodiment, said binder is a copolymer of polycarbonate resin having a repeating unit represented by the formula (I) and a repeating unit represented by the formula (II) (II) wherein rings A and B each represents a phenylene group or a phenylene group substituted with an alkyl group or a halogen atom; and X represents a divalent group selected from -O-, -S-, -SO-, and -SO2-, wherein R3 and R4 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; and R5 represents an alkylene group.
