Wide angle opto-electronic heat detector for fire fighting equipment e.g. to locate hidden heat pockets and hot materials

The heat detector includes an infra-red permeable lens (1) made from highly refractive material, and an infra-red detector (2) arranged so that, given their short focal length, the object can be detected by spherical aberration. A logarithmic electronic unit (3) compares the heat level over a wide measurement range between neighbouring objects, and sends the reading to an LED display (4). A laser pointer (5) then points to the hottest object.
