An inflatable pallet (10) having rectangular dimensions defined by top and bottom sheets (16, 18) within which an array of interrelated inflatable chambers (12) are formed to support a load. The pallet (10) is configured to resist lateral and longitudinal shrinkage of the support surface, resist ballooning, and reduce rotational instability by providing a greater support surface area to support the load, while achieving improved air dispersion for more uniform jacking of the load, and maintaining a preset internal pressure using a self-regulating valve (24) to provide circulatory therapy to a patient lying atop the pallet (10). The pallet (10) is configured to provide for the transfer of the load over an underlying rigid surface through a pattern of escape ports (38) through the bottom sheet (18) or by a separate inflatable underlying plenum chamber (42) having a similar pattern of escape ports for creating an air film upon which the pallet (10) can be moved.
