Electrically operated door locking method

The locking system, preferably for sliding doors, consists of a sliding spring-loaded ball-catch, operated in the door closed position, and an electro-magnetic coil inhibiting release when switched on. The sliding door unit comprises a sliding track (76), a slider (80) on the door with an adjustable spring-loaded ball (86) which engages a spring-biassed projection (92) as the door is closed. The clutch (86) is part of the armature (91) of an electro-magnet (90). The magnetic power, when the coil (90) is energised, when added to the pressures of the springs, prevents the door being opened.
