The test cap (1) involves a recess of a length (T) which corresp. to many times of the dia. of the O-ring (8). The distance between the pipe wall (2) and the opposite lying inner wall (4) of the cap form the cylindrically shaped recess, which tapers such that it is at least partially smaller than the dia. of the O-ring. The pipe end is applied into the test cap, by rolling the o-ring at the pipe wall within the recess, into the region with the smaller distance to the pipe wall. The O-ring is located between the outer wall of the pipe and the inner wall of a cover cap.
