Wood preservatives on the basis of a mixture of alkanolamines and the copper salt of an N-organodiazenium dioxide, additionally comprising a copper compound in such an amount that the ratio by weight of copper in the copper salt of the N-organodiazenium dioxide to copper in the copper compound is 1:3 to 1:more than 3, and method of preserving wood using this composition.
