4-Amino-3-hydroxy-phthalimidine of formula (I) is new: (I) is prepd. by hydrogenation of 4-nitro-3-hydroxy-phthalimidine (II) in an inert solvent in the presence of a dissolved or suspended catalyst, pref. at 0.5-100 bar in the presence of a supported Pd catalyst and opt. a basic salt.
