<p>A method is described for determining the relative position of vehicles in traffic through the transmission of ultrasound signals and measurement of transit time. All vehicles capable of carrying out the method have transmitters and receivers for transmission of data telegrams, evaluation circuits and transmitters and receivers for ultrasound signals. Before the measurement between the vehicles, a cyclical transmission of a data telegram directed towards all vehicles in the vicinity of the measurement takes place.
