The support plate for the windscreen wiper mechanism consists of a tubular element (16) whose free end (18) receives the complementary socket section (20) of the support bearing (22), which carries the drive shaft (24) of the wiper arm. This section of the support bearing has a longitudinal recess (28) parallel to the axis of the socket section. The end of the tubular section is fitted onto the socket section. Part of the free end of the tubular element is pressed into the recess by deformation due to the action of the pressed die (36), acting (P) roughly perpendicular to the axis of the tube. The tube is locked into position longitudinally by means of the inclined faces (34) of the recess. <IMAGE>
