PURPOSE:To preserve sperms at a low temperature while substantially retaining physiological function of sperms even after adding cold shock caused by rapidly cooling sperms to low temperature by using hydrocarbons such as decane. CONSTITUTION:This protecting agent is useful as a cold shock preventing agent for sperms in cooling sperms, preferably rapidly cooling in order to preserve the sperms. An 8-13C, preferably 10-13C aliphatic hydrocarbon, e.g. preferably octane, nonane, decane, undecane, dodecane or tridecane, especially decane is preferably used as an active ingredient of the protecting agent. Sperms derived from mammal such as human, monkey, pig, cow or horse are exemplified as a cell capable of preferably cooling and preserving by this method. |
