ALPHA-GLUCOSIDASE INHIBITOR AND SUGAR COMPOSITION, SWEETENER, FOOD AND FEED CONTAINING THE INHIBITOR

PURPOSE:To provide a sugar composition containing a specific sugar compound as an active component, having actions to slowly inhibit alpha-glucosidase, suppress the abrupt increase of blood sugar level and lower the secretion of insulin and useful for sweetener, food and feed. CONSTITUTION:This sugar composition contains one or more sugar compounds selected from (A) a group composed of monosaccharides consisting of xylose and/or xylitol, oligosaccharide containing xylose as constituent sugar (e.g. xylobiose) and xylose derivatives, (B) a group composed of pentoses excluding xylose (e.g. D-arabinose) and its sugar alcohol (e.g. arabitol), (C) a group composed of tetroses (e.g. erythrose) and its sugar alcohol (e.g. erythritol) and (D) a group composed of trisarrachides (e.g. glycerylaldehyde) and its sugar alcohol (e.g. glycerol) as active components. It is effective for delaying the digestion of starch, starch-originated oligosaccharldes and sucrose.
