PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption without disturbing the operation of a network by reliably determining whether a printer is being used by any of the host computers connected thereto by a network and whether there is any possibility that the printer will be used by any of the host computers. CONSTITUTION:A printer apparatus connected to a plurality of host computers by a network comprises: a print data reception determining unit f11 for determining whether print data is being transmitted from any of the hosts to the printer apparatus; a message transmitting-receiving unit f12 for transmitting a response request to each host if no print data is transmitted, and for receiving a response therefrom; and a power control unit f4 for turning off the power of the printer apparatus if such a condition continues for a predetermined length of time that the response, if any is received, indicates unreachability, or no response is received from any host. |
