A device (30) serving the winding and unwinding of a rope (33.1,33.2) on a spool core embodied as a rotatably-mounted spindle shaft (36), on which the rope (33.1,33.2), when such shaft rotates can be wound or unwound, for the purpose of which a carriage (35.1,35.2) is arranged on spindle shaft (36) so as to be able to displace longitudinally and bears at least one rope guidance element that is embodied as a deflection roller (16) serving the winding and unwinding of rope (33.1,33.2). Spindle shaft (36) features on one half a left and on the other half a right-hand thread (36.1,36.2), and each of threads (36.1,36.2) is assigned a separate carriage (35.1,35.2), for each of which one rope (33.1,33.2) is assigned, each of such carriages moving preferably symmetrically relative to the middle of the spindle shaft. The proposed device (30) permits a rope, which has been paid out to any length, to be wound inside an extremely narrow space.
