PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing a porous SiC molding having a composite structure composed of a whisker SiC and a fine powder SiC and a high porosity and excellent in material strength by using economical raw materials. CONSTITUTION:This method for production of SiC molding is carried out by applying a grinding process for grinding carbonized rice hull to have the maximum particle diameter of <=40mum, a surface treatment process for making a carbonizable thermosetting resin solution adhere to the resultant ground rice hull powder, a molding process for molding the surface-treated carbonized rice hull powder into a prescribed shape, a reaction process for heat-treating the molding in a non-oxidative atmosphere at 1500 to 1800 deg.C and a burning process for heat-treating the molding already subjected to the reaction process in air to remove the remaining carbon component, in order. If the obtained porous SiC molding is treated with a polycarbosilane-containing solution and subsequently baking at the temperature at which the above-mentioned polycarbosilane is turned to SiC, the material strength is further improved. |
