PURPOSE:To efficiently decompose and remove an organic chlorine compound by mixing a gas containing the organic chlorine compound with ozone, allowing to contact with a solid catalyst and oxidatively decomposing the organic chlorine compound to treat the gas containing the organic chlorine compound, which causes environmental pollution, at room temp. and atmospheric pressure with a simple operation. CONSTITUTION:The gas containing the organic chlorine compound (e.g. tetrachloroethylene) is mixed with ozone and brought into contact with the solid catalyst (e.g. MnO2) to oxidatively decompose the organic chlorine compound. In the mixed ratio of the organic chlorine compound with ozone, excess oxygen than chemical equivalent obtained by the reaction formula is preferably added and the addition by 1-5 equivalent times the organic chlorine compound is desired. And for example, at the time of introducing the gaseous mixture of the organic chlorine compound-containing gas with ozone to a catalyst packed tower made by packing the solid catalyst in a column, and for the flow rate of the gaseous mixture in terms of space velocity, 100-1000hr<-1> will suffice. |
