Hydrogenation catalysts of the Raney-nickel-type doped with at least one element from gps. IIB, IVB or VIIB are new. The novelty is that dopant is not added to the alloy pre-cursor but during alkali treatment. Also claimed is the prepn. of the catalyst and use in the hydrogenation of nitriles to amines.
