Diene polymers functionalised with an epoxidised alkoxysilane are prepd. by catalysed prepn. of a living diene polymer and addn. to the living polymer of an agent of formula (Y)m-R<1>-Si(OR<2>)3-n-R<3>n (I). In (I), Y = a gp. of formula (i) or (ii); R<1> = 1-10C alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; R<2> = 1-12C alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkaryl or aralkyl; R<3> = 1-12C alkyl, aryl or alkaryl; R<4> = 1-6C hydrocarbon gp., opt. with O atom(s) in the chain; n = 0 or 1; m = 1 or 2; p, q = 0-4; and p+q = 2-5. The amt. of (I) used is such that the molar ratio (RM) of (I):active sites in the initiator is at least 1. Redn. of the hysteresis of dienic polymer vulcanisates by modification with (I), and addn. of SiO2 and the usual components of S-vulcanisable compsns., is also claimed. <IMAGE> |
