The control appts. utilises pressure on the brake pedal (11) to drive hydraulic fluid from the master cylinder (12) to the brakes (14) of the individual wheels (15-18). Signals from wheel speed sensors (51) to the electronic controller (3) cause wheel slip or skidding to be counteracted by action on the motor (26) driving the brake fluid pumps (25) in both circuits (21, 22). Inlet valves (23) and outlet valves (24) are operated, the latter draining fluid into additional reservoirs (27). Pulsations of pressure are suppressed by delayed operation of the inlet valves which are left slightly open so as to pass very little fluid.
