Breakaway net attachment system

A breakaway net attachment system for mounting a basetball net (14) to the rim (12) of a basketball goal at predetermined locations along the rim (12). The system includes clips (16) which are attachable to the rim (12) and which include retainer portions (24, 26, 28, 30) for retaining the net (14) in association with the rim (12). The rim (12) preferably includes a plurality of studs (18) located along an undersurface thereof for engaging within apertures (40) formed in the clips whereby the clips (16) are retained in engagement with the rim (12). In one embodiment, the clips (16) are provided with fingers (24, 26, 28, 30) for retaining the net (14) wherein the fingers will release the net in response to a predetermined force being applied to the net. In a further embodiment, the clip (16) is adapted to be pulled off of the rim (12) when a predetermined force is applied to the net. $$ $$
