The medium includes a recording layer (4) in which information is written and a playback layer (3) which receives the information recorded in the upper layer (4) and from which this information is read. To provide a magneto-optical recording medium having an increased recording capacity and excellent resolution and suitable for recording with high data packing density, the playback layer is conceived so that the width of a stable magnetic domain in this layer is greater at room temp. than the width of a magnetic recording domain as it was laid out during recording of information in the recording layer.
