Longitudinal optically pumped solid-state laser

The laser has a stable optical resonator, the laser-active medium excited by a pumping beam lying outside the optical axis, for stimulation of individual transversal modes, with variation of the excitation position relative to the optical axis continuously, or in discrete steps. More than one pumping beam may be employed. Pref. a mechanical, optical, or acoustooptical modulator is used for reducing the resonator loss, with a frequency multiplication provided within or outside the resonator.
