The device for heating the cleaning fluid 3 in a car windshield washing system has a reservoir 2 for the fluid which is kept above freezing by a heater 4 working in conjunction with the circulation mechanism. The circulation arises from a vertical pipe 6 extending for almost the full height of the reservoir and surrounded by the heating coils at its lower end. The fluid moves upwards through the tube, driven by convection. The tube is metal, with a high thermal conductivity. At the top of the tube is a distributor 7 which sprinkles the heated fluid over the surface of the remaining fluid. The distributor extends radially almost to the reservoir walls.
