The rotary piston (1) is triangular. It can rotate on an eccentric (3) within radial and axial limits described by the fixed housing (4). Thus the three piston faces (5,6,7) complete working spaces (8) with the various sectors of the housing so the spaces are hermetically sealed from one another to give varying space volume as a function of the piston angle. The piston and housing are joined via gears and the housing has two entry channels (12,13) to import media and two outlet channels (14,15) for media removal etc. The entry and outlet channels issue into different working spaces and the position of the entry channels and direction of piston rotation are so adjusted to one another as to direct medium into the space expanding at any one time as the piston rotates.
