Method for determining residual current of electrolytic capacitor

A method for determining the residual current characteristic of an aluminium foil electrolytic capacitor as a result of its potential-free storage prior to use is based on the provision of two samples of the aluminium foil (1) used in its construction. The foil samples (1) are enclosed in a sandwich assembly formed by an upper and lower layer of paper (3) impregnated with an electrolyte and the whole is surrounded by a common cathode (4). The connections (2) enable an AC voltage (U) to be applied to the foil (1) with external cooling followed by measurement of the charge necessary to make good the dielectric layer using a DC potential.
