Process for the preparation of aromatic fluorinated compounds and diamides

Prodn. of ring-fluorinated aromatic cpds. comprises reacting the corresp. chloro or bromo cpds. with alkali fluorides in a diamide of formula (I) as solvent. B = a gp. of formula (a); R3-R7 = H or 1-6C alkyl; X = O, S or N-(1-6C alkyl); R1, R2 = 1-6C alkyl; or R1+R2 = (CH2)3, (CH2)4, Y-(CH2)2, Y-(CH2)3, CH2-Y-CH2, CH2-Y-(CH2)2 or (CH2)2-Y-CH2; Y = as X; R1', R2' = as R1, R2; m = 0 or 1; and n = 0-2. Also claimed are cpds. (I) as above with the exception of those in which B = (CH2)2 or (CH2)3 and R1, R2, R1', R2' = Me.
