PURPOSE:To obtain a musical tone information compressing and communicating device which is capable of reproducing the performance information of musical tones while maintaining quality on a terminal side even if general public lines are used for transmission of this performance information from a station to a terminal. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a compressing means 22 which analyzes MIDI signals as the performance information, detects the continuation of the patterns of the same tones or the changes of the tones continuous in a time base direction, deletes the repeating information, adds the signals indicating the presence of repetition and the positions to be repeated to the information and compresses the data quantity. This means transmits the compressed information to the terminal. A prescribed expanding operation is executed by an expanding means to obtain the original musical tone information and the MIDI sound sources are driven on the terminal side. The compression of the MIDI signals may be executed just prior to transmission of the MID signals to the terminal after reading out the signals before compression from the memory 10 of the station. The compressed MID signal may be otherwise stored in the memory 10 of the station and be transmitted at need. |
