PURPOSE:To wipe rainwater at a proper intermittent rest time in response to the vehicle speed change by obtaining the magnitude of the vector sum of the dropping speed of raindrops in the vertical direction and the vehicle speed in the horizontal direction, and adjusting the intermittent operating cycle of a wiper in inverse proportion to the magnitude of the vector sum CONSTITUTION:The rain quantity colliding with the windshield 20 of an automobile traveled at the vehicle speed VV is proportional to the vector sum VB of the dropping speed VR of rain and the vehicle speed VV. The dropping speed VR of rain is obtained through experience, e.g. about 6.4m/sec, and this value VR is stored in the memory of a control unit 1. When the vehicle is traveled, the control unit 1 receives the detection signal of a vehicle speed sensor 13, and it obtains the ratio between the magnitude of the vector sum VB and the dropping speed VR of raindrops in the vertical direction. One cycle of a wiper when the vehicle is stopped is divided by the ratio, the operating time of the wiper is subtracted, the intermittent rest time of the wiper is calculated, and the wiper is driven according to the result. |
