Band filter apparatus, particularly for the treatment of sludgy liquids, has an upper filter chamber (6), a lower outlet chamber (15) and an endless band (16) running between the chambers. The filter chamber (6) contains a vertically movable plunger (1) which has a flexible membrane (2) beneath it. The plunger (1) can be internally pressurised and in the operating cycle this pressurisation is effected simultaneously with lowering of the plunger into pressing contact with the filter cake. The liquid to be filtered may be fed in through a tube (4) which carries the plunger (1) and the top of the plunger may have a sloping surface (3) to distribute the incoming matter evenly around the chamber. <IMAGE> |
