PURPOSE:To provide a fusion-splicing device for optical fiber capable of correctly recognizing the optical fibers of prescribed kinds in spite of a place of a poor working environment or a large number of the optical fibers to be connected and fusion-splicing the optical fibers under optimum conditions meeting these fibers. CONSTITUTION:This fusion-splicing device has an illuminating means 30 for illuminating the ends of the optical fibers, an optical observation means 10 for observing the images transmitted or projected by this illuminating means 30 and an image processing means 50 for subjecting the images obtd. by this optical observation means 10 to image processing, at the time of fusion-splicing the optical fiber ends which are disposed to face each other and are aligned in their axes to each other by electric discharge heating. The optical fiber ends which are disposed to face each other and are aligned in their axes with each other, are subjected to image processing and the kinds of the optical fibers are recognized by the respective means. The optical fiber ends are then fusion- spliced by electric discharge heating under the optimum conditions suitable for these fibers. |
