PURPOSE:To shorten the time necessary for duplex copy using n or more sheets by a method in which n sheets are supplied to a copy position, and the sheet, after being copied on the first surface, is turned over and supplied again to the copy position. CONSTITUTION:A copying machine 1 is composed of an image reader IR and a page printer PRT. The image reader IR quantizes a manuscript image by scanning, and the quantized manuscript image is stored in a memory unit part 30. The page printer PRT forms a copy image on the sheet based on image data which were read out from the memory unit part 30 and has a transfer route which is long enough to receive n sheets. In duplex copy using n or more sheets, since the first number of sheets to be circulated by a sheet transfer mechanism 70C is n, the sheet supply timing for the first sheet is set so that the n'th sheet reaches the copy position after copying the manuscript image of the (2n-1)'th page being allowed to start. |
