APPARATUS FOR CLEANING AN INSOLUBLE MATERIAL

An apparatus is provided for cleaning an insoluble material with a cleaning solution. The apparatus has a rotatable open-ended cylinder having an inclined longitudinal axis, a lower end, an upper end and an inner wall. The rotatable cylinder is rotatably supported in an inclined position. The apparatus also has a helicoidal impeller in the form of a continuous blade fixed on the inner wall. This helicoidal impeller includes a plurality of turns, each turn being provided with at least one screen. Driving mechanism operatively connected to the cylinder is provided for rotating the same about its longitudinal axis in a given direction 60 as to cause the insoluble material to be moved by the impeller within the cylinder up to the upper end thereof. The apparatus includes a supplying conveyor for supplying the insoluble material to the cylinder at the lower end thereof, and an evacuating conveyor for collecting the insoluble material exiting the cylinder through the upper end of the same. Also, the apparatus is provided with a tank for collecting the cleaning solution and a hose extending inside the cylinder from the upper end thereof to a predetermined distance away from the upper end for spraying the cleaning solution towards the inner wall of the cylinder over the predetermined distance while the inner wall is being laterally upwardly rotated in the given direction.
