An N-(substituted amino)imide derivative represented by the formula (I) is a novel compound which can be utilized as an effective ingredient of herbicidal compositions. <IMG> (I) wherein, R1 is hydrogen atom, C1 - C4 alkyl group, C7 - C9 aralkyl group, C1 - C4 haloalkyl group, (C1 - C4 alkyl) carbonyl group or (C1 - C4 alkyl) sulfonyl group; A represents a structure selected from the group consisiting of the following formulas (A-1), (A-2), (A-3), (A-4) and (A-5) <IMG> (A-1) <IMG> (A-2) <IMG> (A-3) <IMG> (A-4) <IMG> (A-5) wherein R2 and R3 in the formula (A-1) are independently hydrogen atom or C1 - C4 alkyl group, but not R2 = R3 = H, R4 in the formula (A-4 ) is halogen atom, C1 - C4 alkyl group and/or nitro group, m is an integer of 0 - 4, the substituents of m not less than 2 being same or different; X1 and X2 are independently hydrogen atom, halogen atom, C1 - C4 alkyl group, C1 - C4 alkoxy group, C1 - C4 alkylthio group, C1 - C4 haloalkyl group, C1 - C4 haloalkoxy group, C1 - C4 haloalkylthio group, C2 - C4 alkoxyalkyl group, C2 C4 thioalkoxyalkyl group or NR7R8, wherein R7 and R8 are independently hydrogen atom, C1 - C4 alkyl group or C1 - C4 alkoxy group; and Z is nitrogen atom or CH.
