RECORDING MEDIUM FORMED BY UTILIZING LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION AND RECORDING ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To make it possible to facilitate recording of information, to preserve the information stably over a long period and to easily erase the information by preparing a compsn. formed by dispersing flat particles exhibiting affinity to a liquid crystal having electric field responsiveness and positive dielectric anisotropy into the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium has an empty hollow cell 7 having a light transparent part and the liquid crystal compsn. which is filled into the cell 7 and contains the liquid crystal consisting essentially of the liquid crystal molecules having the electric field responsiveness and positive dielectric anisotropy and the flat shaped particles dispersed into the liquid crystal and exhibiting the affinity to the liquid crystal. The recording medium has an liquid crystal display recording means (thermal head) 9 for putting the specific parts of the liquid crystal compsn. in the recording medium to the light transparent state and recording erasing means (transparent electrodes) 4 for eliminating the realized light transparent state. Namely, the liquid crystal molecules having the electric field responsiveness are arranged in the impression direction and the particles of the flat shapes the arranged in the same direction as well when voltage is impressed to the cell 7 by the transparent electrodes 4. The light transparent state is thus attained. The light transparent state is maintained even after the voltage impression is released. The recordable state is thus preserved.
