PURPOSE:To provide a translating device which analyzes the syntax of an original text by discriminating the noun phrases appearing in the original text and generates equivalents to the noun phrases to translate the original text. CONSTITUTION:The translating device is equipped with a storage means 8 as a dictionary 8b for translation which can be retrieved, a retrieval means 9 which retrieves the dictionary 8b for translation stored in the storage means 8, a translation editing means 13 which translates the original text through the storage means 8 and retrieval means 9, and a noun phrase deciding means 13a which decides two successive nouns as one noun through a syntax analysis or meaning analysis unless the two successive nouns dominated by a verb in the original text are registered as one noun phrase; and the translation editing means 13 corrects the translation of the original text according to the result of the noun phrase deciding means 13a. |
