The dishwashing machine has a basket (5) which is slidable along horizontal guides to which it is connected by way of sliding devices (8). The sliding device is connected to the basket by way of lateral couplings comprising a pin (17) and a slot (18) and having two catch positions. The basket can be displaced selectively between an upper position and a lower position which are defined by the pin-and-slot coupling by applying to the basket an upwardly directed force adapted to actuate the coupling in a switching mode. The pin preferably forms part of a lever (19) pivotally mounted on the sliding device.
