METHOD FOR CONNECTING METALLIC PIPE COVERED OPTICAL FIBER CABLE

PURPOSE:To provide a method for connecting metallic pipe covered optical fiber cables by which checking of the welding executed without thermal influence on optical fibers is made possible after connecting the metallic pipes for covering by welding using a metallic sleeve. CONSTITUTION:Test specimens 1 having the same metallic pipes and metallic sleeve 4 as the metallic pipes and metallic sleeve of the metallic pipe covered optical fiber cables 10, 20 to be subjected to normal connection and having a sensor 5 for measuring the temp. near a weld zone are prepd. The temp. near the weld zone is measured by the sensor 5 while changing welding conditions by using the test specimen 1 prior to the normal connection. Optimum welding conditions are then set and the normal connection is executed under the optimum welding conditions. Welding is executed under the optimum welding conditions and the welding is executed under the same welding conditions for the normal connection by using another test specimen 1 after the normal connection. The normal connection executed under nearly the same welding conditions as the optimum welding conditions is checked by the output of the sensor 5.
