摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration in a coding efficiency resulting from stop of two-way prediction in the case of edit by employing two-way prediction for coding even at an edited point and replacing the prediction method used for the edited points with other prediction method in the case of edit or decoding. CONSTITUTION:Coded image data from a reproduction medium are separated into prediction remaining information and prediction information by a multiplexer demultiplexer 1 and the prediction remaining information is given to a multiplexer section 5 and the prediction information is given to a variable length decoder 2. The decoder 2 restores a variable length code into a fixed length and the obtained prediction information is given to a prediction information revision device 3, in which the inter-image prediction method is revised before and after the edit point so as to dinscontinue inter-image prediction based on edit point information given from a read/write controller 9 and the prediction information after the revision is outputted to the multiplexer 5. The read information revision device 3 recognizes the edit point by the edit point information given from a control section 9 but it is recognized by discontinuity of GOP numbers being an output of the decoder 2 instead. The multiplexer 5 multiplexes new prediction information and the separated prediction remaining information and the result is outputted to a buffer 6.</p>
