PURPOSE:To use a projection lens of a small aperture and to make the device small in size and inexpensive while maintaining the contrast and the brightness of a colored picture displayed on a screen on a good condition. CONSTITUTION:An anamorphic lens 5 provided with converging action in the horizontal direction and a microlens array 6 converging colors R.G.B on the pixel aperture part of a liquid crystal display panel are provided on the optical path of dichroic mirrors 4a.4b.4c dividing a white light beam projected from a white light source 1 into R.G.B and irradiating a liquid crystal display panel 7 by different angles, respectively, with R.G.B and the liquid crystal display panel 7 modulating R.G.B. Consequently, the divergent angle of light after transmitting through the liquid crystal display panel 7 i.e., the divergent angle of light in the whole relevant display region is suppressed. |
