The legs of the mast (1,2) are spread, joined at their heads and stepped on the deck of the vessel, equally spaced from the centre line. Triangular spreaders (3) are mounted between the masts, at optimal intervals with stabilising rigging (4,6,7). The forestay (4) stretches from the foredeck to the mastheads. The spreaders may be arrow-shaped, with a cross-brace not joining the masts but separating the legs of the spreader.
