Rocker switch e.g. for kitchen appliance

The rocker switch has a switch rocker (12). The rocker (12) is locked with a housing (10) containing the switch (8) such that it is in the off position of the switch (8). This prevents accidental switching on of the switch. To simplify operation of the switch, the housing (10) has finger notches (20, 22) at both ends of the rocker (12). The rocker (12) is preferably movable between two and positions and a middle position. The rocker (12) is at rest in the middle position and is stable at each of the end positions. The middle position is then the off position. The switch (8) may also have an integrated light which lights up the switch when it is in the on position. In a preferred arrangement, the switch (8) has two contact pairs (56, 58) and the rocker (12) has one or two actuating arms (26, 28) with cams (30, 32, 34) to actuate the contact pairs (56, 58).
