The uppermost, porous layer (1) comprises a filler-free plastic whose particles have fused together at their points of mutual contact, forming capillaries through which the colouring substance is conveyed in a downward direction. Below this layer (1) is arranged a receiving layer (2) for the respective dye diffusing in through the capillaries. The two layers (1, 2) are on a substrate layer. Since the colouring substance is thus conveyed rapidly through the uppermost layer (1) to the central layer (2) through the capillaries during printing, immediate drying at the surface of the recording medium takes place. Lateral spreading, i.e. blurring of the dye does not take place. No blurred areas are therefore produced and the images are very bright.
