New transporter protein (TP) able to transport cationic xenobiotics and pharmaceuticals (A) from the blood into liver or kidney epithelial cells or from the intestine, has a partial sequence of at least 7 amino acids (aa) taken from one of two sequences (556 and 231 aa) reproduced in the specification. Also new are: (1) DNA (I) encoding TP; and (2) epithelial cells that permanently express TP. The specification includes the DNA sequence (1882 bp) encoding the 556 aa protein.
