Method and appts. for heat treatment of materials

The method concerns heat treatment of powdery materials, in particular, sintering of metallic materials with addition of a fuel with high carbon content, according to which the material is poured onto a movable grid to form a layer which is ignited at one end and supplied with oxygen. The method is novel in that the layer is ignited also at the other end after it has been transported through a given distance. Pressure gradients are arranged so that the combustion zones move through the processing bed and burn the fuel particles left over from the respective first combustion zones. The appts. for carrying out the above process is also claimed and is novel in that it has (in the outlet region of the heat treatment appts.) a second ignition furnace (4) and a separate system (6, 8, 10) for producing a gradient.
