The invention concerns an electromagnetic hysteresis brake which is provided with a stationary brake magnet (4) comprising a field coil (10) and a two-part pole ring with an inner and an outer pole ring part (5, 6). The electromagnetic hysteresis brake is further provided with a rotating ring (3) which is made of permanent-magnetic material and projects into an annular air gap (11) in the pole ring, said air gap being formed between the inner and outer pole ring parts (5, 6). At least one brake air gap (12) is adjustable.
