Dispensing apparatus is intended for dispensing viscous or semi-solid food products from containers (50). The containers are in two parts (51, 52) and one part (52) is deformable to permit discharge of product through a container outlet (57). The apparatus has a seating (43) for the container (50) and a plunger (36), membrane (104) or gas pressure for engaging the deformable part (52) of the container. The top of the container (50) is located in the seating (43) at the start of a discharge operation by locating means (34; 87) prior to deformation of the container. The seating (43) is located on a pivotable arm (41) movable between dispensing and container location positions.
