Optical coupling arrangement for optical switching

On the input side each optical signal arriving on the appropriate input fibre (E1,...,Ee) is distributed according to wavelength by the demultiplexers (D1,...,De) before reaching the adjustable wavelength converters (Kl1,...,Kln;...;Ke1,...,Ken). There follows an area-coupling arrangement (R), with, on the output side, multiplexers combining the wavelengths. Optical beam splitters (S1,....Se) individually assigned to the incoming signal fibres (E1,...Ee) multiply the arriving signal into at least two. One of these is fed to the associated wavelength demultiplexer (D1,....De) and the other to a variable optical filter (DF1y,...DFez) leading to a variable wavelength converter (Kly,....Kez) coupler to a further input of the area coupling installation (R).
