The invention relates to a washer extractor (10) or a cleaning machine with a casing (11) and a rotatable drum (12) arranged therein for receiving the laundry to be washed. Conventional washer extractors are provided with damping systems with hydraulic shock absorbers. The friction of the hydraulic shock absorbers is an obstacle to weighing load of the machine. The machine according to the invention has a gas-spring system (13) for absorbing the vibration that occurs during operation. The gas-spring system (13) is also designed for damping the vibration. The gas-springs are connected to a compressed-air distributor 18 with the pressure being detected by a sensor 20. The pressure in the springs is adjusted dependant on the part of the wash/dry cycle. Also, the system allows the weight of the load to be assessed by the pressure in the gas-springs. There are compensating tanks 23 for the system. <IMAGE>
